Abstract
The salivary gland is a source of saliva and it contains many kinds of growth factors. Among them, we studied the localization of TGF-¥á, IGF-1, FGF-7, BMP-2 and BMP-4 in mouse using immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization. BMP-2 was found in myoepithelial cells of the parotid gland. BMP-4 was found in the acinar cells of both parotid gland and submandibular gland. FGF-7 was found in the capillary endothelial cells and the myoepithelial cells of the parotid gland and IGF-1 was found in the excretory duct cells of both parotid gland and submandibular gland. TGF-¥á was found in the capillary endothelial cells and the myoepithelial cells of the submandibular gland. Collectively, many growth factors were found in the salivary gland and they were important to maintain the homeostasis and the wound healing of the oral cavity.
